![]() All the content I want good surround is almost always coming from Disney+, HBOMax, Netflix, etc and those stream surround sound just fine. I have not tried Sling but honestly I'm sticking with YouTube TV as the unlimited DVR, family sharing, and awesome integration with the Google TV interface is just a no brainer (and I can even get Redzone during NFL season to boot.) This isn't a big deal as 75% of live TV I watch is news. Other apps like Netflix, Disney+, HBOMax, I get Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital+ or Dolby Atmos. I'm wondering though if anyone with the same setup may have figured out a setting combo that works better (again with a Yamaha AVR as the switch, not the TV)Ģ) Both Hulu and Youtube Live TV apps only send audio in linear PCM 2-channel it looks like as my AVR switches to DTS NEO 6. I know I could get a programmable remote setup (assuming it can control Chromecast) but I'm actually okay having 2 remotes - it's still simple enough for my girlfriend to use (the bar to meet in simplicity) so I don't see the realistic benefit and thereby motivation to mess with a 3rd party bluetooth+ir programmable remote. So at this point, I set the auto-standby setting on my Yamaha to 20 min and got the remote to power the TV and Chromecast off and AVR turns off in 20 min and then to power up I have to hit the power button on the receiver and the Chromecast remote. I was then having issues with standby pass thru so my Vizio was turning the TV sound on if the receiver didn't power on when everything else did because the Chromecast was being passed through while the receiver was off. The best I could do was get it to power everything off (through CEC) but the receiver wouldn't power up. The Chromecast remote lets you choose to map the button the buttons to Auto (CEC), TV or Receiver CEC alone, TV or Reciever IR, or Chromecast power only (bluetooth.) I tried as many combinations of HDMI Control CEC settings on the TV, AVR, and Chromecast remote as possible. My AVR is the switching hub so everything goes into the AVR and then one HDMI out to the Vizio. The Chromecast itself is controlled via bluetooth. It was able to control my Yamaha AVR volume, but not power. It basically gives you 2-3 remote code sets per device to try, there's no ability to enter custom remote codes for a lot more different code sets it basically just tries to guess for you based only on specifying a device type and a manufacturer. I have a 2-year old higher end Yamaha receiver and a 3-year old mid-range model Vizio smart TV. But I can't say I'm surprised this simple little device isn't very robust. ![]() So wanted to start a thread for discussing this relatively new devices.ġ) The remote is designed to let you control volume, input, and power on multiple devices using IR or HDMI CEC. Chromecast works with almost any TV with an HDMI port just plug it in, connect to Wi-Fi, and start streaming. So far I only have two frustrations with the device. And you can use the voice remote to ask Google to find a specific title, or control other compatible smart home devices (available separately). The integration of live TV with YouTube TV is fantastic (way better than Hulu Live - which you can't use anyway if you are using Wireless Home Internet like TMobile Home Internet! Treats the same same as a hotspot which is prohibited by Hulu but not by others!) Great interface design and allowed me to cut the cable finally and have a device the intelligently combines all my streaming services.
